I have used many browsers to go online for open sourcing, and always return to Firefox. Whilst I'm sure there are just as good alternatives, for the internet investigator, its the ideal tool.

The massive benefit to the cyber investigator , apart from the security that comes with it , are the add ons. You can adapt the browser to not only work with you, but for you as well.

Here is a list of my favourite firefox tools to use.( To add them , click on the three lines top right of the browser , then add ons and search for them. ) If you download Firefox from Mozilla, and add these add ons, your open source capability ease and hiding will become far easier and watertight.

My favourite and absolute essential add on. Self destructing cookies. Gets rid of a site's cookies and LocalStorage as soon as you close its tabs. Protects against trackers and zombie-cookies. Trustworthy services can be whitelisted. No more spying on your browsing by third parties.
Nimbus Screen Capture .Screen captures web pages. you can Select snip areas and regions. Whole browser windows. Edit screenshots and save images as local file or Google Drive. Annotate screenshots with different tools.

This one is a great tool for anonymous surfing. Ghostery hides you from the control panel of the site you visit and is a one click operation. Great.
Working like a vpn, its a safe way of looking at a site which may be run or hosted by the target.

Open link data sniffer . Adds structured data discovery and handling of multiple content-types to your browser. Reveals Structured Metadata embedded within HTML pages in notations including POSH (Plain Old Semantic HTML), Microdata, JSON-LD, RDF-Turtle, and RDFa.
Exify - Add this and visit a page, hover over the pictures and it auto displays the exif data within the pic. If you have a pic, drag it and drop into the firefox window and it will do the same. Great tool, and does it covertly, as its within the browser on your machine - no dodgy uploads to the web!

Right clicking on the mouse gives you numerous ping and trace route opportunities. It also does a whois for you so you don't have to.
Hide my ass is a built in vpn proxy that allows you to use a proxy without any clumsy set up and site ads. Just type the url in and away you go.
